Hi People!!!!!
Welcome to the first miniletter! Like I said last week, this version of the newsletter will be a little more listicle-y and serve as a place to easily share my recommendations, inspiration, and ideas that don’t require a 1,000 word essay. I am fighting with every fiber of my being to not launch into a random anecdote here in an effort to actually keep this short, so let’s just get into it.
(BTW if you have any sections you’d like to see as part of a future miniletter or questions you’d like me to answer, please submit them below!!)
Shopping deep dive
A curation of options for a particular item I’ve been craving in my wardrobe.
Because of the steadily dropping temperatures in New York and my complete lack of interest in jeans at the moment, it’s denim alternatives this week. Here are my top picks for non-denim pants that could be dressed up for dinner or down for errands or work (or up for work if that’s your office vibe).
Top row, from left to right: simple, gray Mango trousers; wide leg Proenza Schouler White Label pants in a shade of yellow(?) that I’m highly interested in; wool Etro trousers via TheRealReal that I would scoop up immediately if they were my size; Norma Kamali leggings that I normally wouldn’t put in this category but the slit in the front makes them sophisticated enough IMO; cargo-inspired Celine pants via TheRealReal with plenty of room for snacks.
Bottom row, from left to right: classic trousers from The Frankie Shop in a great chocolate brown color; Agolde leather pants that I think I would normally hate but something about that shade of beige with a lacquer-y finish is doing it for me; Favorite Daughter trousers that I’ve heard people rave about; coated jeans from The Frankie Shop which I guess are technically still denim but it’s my newsletter and I like them damnit; Tibi trousers with the perfectly unique double waist detail.
What to wear for…
An ensemble I dreamt up for a completely imaginary scenario.
1.) A vintage Comme Des Garçons dress via TheRealReal that my tremendously chic dream dinner party guests would definitely appreciate 2). My dream Tibi blazer that would have to be present in this fantasy 3). A pair of slightly edgy yet classic Staud boots to chill the whole thing out because I need them to know how cool and laidback I am (lol) 4.) A Rag & Bone fair isle sweater for coziness and clashing prints 5.) ladylike Lizzie Fortunato jewels for sophistication 6.) colorful Neophyte beads for playfulness 7.) and an Edie Parker confetti bag because it is a party after all.
In my cart
A collection of things that are currently in my cart across various browsers, almost none of which I will end up purchasing. But you might!
1.) plaid puffer by No. 6 Store 2.) signet ring by Neophyte 3.) cow-embellished belt from Folkloore 4.) chunky Alohas loafers 5.) vintage flannel via Object Limited 6.) jeans by Ksenia Schnaider 7.) Rixo dress 8.) Market phone case 9.) the Madhappy running collection which hasn’t been released yet (no I do not run) 10.) the Kule x Max Bone dog puffer and the human sized one for me, duh 11.) Mary Janes by Augusta The Brand 12.) ankle boots from The Row 13.) pants printed with a poem from County Faire and 14.) a vintage silver trench via Object Limited.
In my saved folder
Some of my favorite images that I’ve stumbled across on Instagram in the last 2 weeks.
Top row, from left to right: a reminder of how much I love grey and tan together via @jessie_loeffler_randall, the image that sparked my desire for a bright, plastic-y trench coat via @thefaircourt, and a strong case for chopping my hair off again via @thezoereport.
Middle row, from left to right: a strong case for growing my hair out instead via @dimepiece.co (one of my favorite IG follows), a scene that made me miss the Paris metro via @etre_cecile, and school girl chic outfit inspiration via @thenotoriouskia.
Bottom row, from left to right: proof that messenger bags should make a comeback via @milanesiamilano, graphic tee envy and a battle to not dye my hair pink via @velvetcoke, and print mixing 101 via @marianne_theodorsen.
Recs of the week
The Idiot by Edif Batuman: I loved the tone and style of this book so much. And it had me cracking up laughing on the subway like a big nerd.
305 Fitness: These dance cardio classes feel like going to a club dead sober at 7AM. I know that sounds like torture, but I actually love it.
This delightful episode of Maintenance Phase about Angela Lansbury’s fitness book which honestly sounds like a method I could get behind.
This interestingly terrifying Twitter thread theory about the Metaverse.
One last thought
Milky Way mini candy bars should be removed from all Halloween assortments immediately. They are not good. But they are also not so bad that I won’t eat them when they’re the only thing left in the bowl.
That’s all for this week! Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this new format. Like I said at the top, I am totally open to ideas for different sections (as I don’t intend to use this exact format for every miniletter) and feedback in general, so feel free to reply to this email or submit a question to my Google form below. Or if you have a shopping request you’d like me to deep dive on or an occasion you need an outfit idea for, I’m happy to include those too! You know where to find me. Talk to you next week, love you, byeeeeeeeeeee.
Cheers,
Maddy
